The migration is a year-round animal, not a single event, and Tanzania holds most of its calendar: the calving on the southern Serengeti plains early in the year, the herds moving west and north as the months turn.

Add the Ngorongoro Crater, which holds game the whole year, and Zanzibar for the ending, and Tanzania carries a long trip on its own.

When to goThe month matters more than the map.

Calving on the southern plains in January and February. The western corridor around the middle of the year. The northern crossings later, roughly August and September. Zanzibar is at its best in the drier months, June to October and again December to February.
