Few places let you do this much without a long transfer between each part: the game of Kruger and the private reserves, the city and the mountain at the Cape, the winelands an hour inland, and the whales off the southern coast in season.

It is the easiest country on the continent for a first African trip, and the one we most often use to bookend a safari with a few soft days at the end.
